Listening to: Éliane Radigue
fundamental voices
of electronic music
Pod heslem „Trigger Change, Regardless“ zvou zvukové umělkyně Sara Pinheiro a Marie Čtveráčková ke komentovanému poslechu významných umělkyň historie elektronické a elektroakustické hudby. Navzdory překážkám a stereotypům ženy tvořily elektroakustickou a elektronickou hudbu a zásadním způsobem ji obohatily a proměnily.
... Join sound artists Sara Pinheiro and Marie Čtveráčková for a listening session dedicated to significant sound artists that created the legacy of electronic and electroacoustic music. Despite obstacles and stereotypes, women have been creating electroacoustic and electronic music and fundamentally enriched and transformed it. Given that in certain contexts their work and ideas are still not commonly perceived as significant or pioneering, we will remember them during regular community listening sessions. This year, unfortunately, the French creator Éliane Radigue left us. She is precisely one of those who we could call one of the pioneers in this field, whose work was a fundamental voice of musique concréte and minimalist meditative synthesizer abstraction. During the first listening session, we will focus on her thoughts, we will read from her interviews, listen to her work and explain her creative process and talk a bit about her instruments. In the discussion we will also focus on how the category of „pioneering“ is used in the history of music The listening evenings are a continuation of the thoughts behind the Trigger project, which was created at the Prague Synth Library with the aim of connecting and strengthening the voices of women in electronic music; and also of the REGARDLESS research project, in which sound artist and researcher Sara Pinheiro focused on finding pioneers of electronic music and sound art whose work has been neglected from historical views precisely due to gender bias. In February, both projects participated in the accompanying program of the Ment festival in Ljubljana in cooperation with the local Atol Project. We now want to offer regular listening sessions focused on the work of prominent women in sound arts with discussions about their creative process and philosophies. We hope that such listening sessions could inspire not only creators, but also anyone interested in music, sound art, groundbreaking creative ideas and approaches, as well as the history of innovation in the field of musical instruments and technologies. ⇨ WHEN: Wed 6th of May 18:30 ⇨ WHERE: Synth Library Prague GPS 50.062727159303336, 14.437951978446856 ⇨ TO BOOK YOUR SPOT: please fill in the form on this website, we will send you a confirmation email with the next 24 hours. ⇨ DONATION: voluntary (recommended 150 - 300 CZK) ⇨ SUITABLE: for anyone interested in sound and music ⇨ ANY QUESTIONS OR SUGGESTIONS at info@synthlibrary.cz The listening sessions are curated and lead by Sara Pinheiro and Marie Ctverackova Sara Pinheiro is a sound-maker. For film and video-art, she does sound recording, editing, foley, and mixing. In her solo practice, she makes acousmatic pieces, usually for multichannel performances, radio broadcasts, and installations. Her work crosses practices of sound design for film with concrete and acousmatic music. It blends natural and artificial soundscapes via field recordings, foley practices, and signal processing. She is a member of the live coding group K-o-l-e-k-t-i-v and the noise trio SHLUK. She is also a regular collaborator of Synth Library Prague and Arteacta. She has run workshops, soundwalks and listening sessions since 2012. Marie Ctverackova aka Mary C is a curator, sound artist, DJ, organiser, and co-founder of the Synth Library Prague community space for sharing, learning and unlearning, discussions, and experiments, not only in the field of electronic music and sound in general. Her projects explore the revolutionary potential of music and music communities, the ways we can navigate and overcome inequalities and stereotypes, and the role of access as well as broader social and economic contexts and their impact on the arts. SYNTH LIBRARY is a space for sharing, creating, discussing, experimenting, learning and unlearning together not only in the field of electronic music. Space full of instruments, books and more sources of sounds and inspiration run by artists and curators with the aim to rehearse together, support each other, collaborate and listen to each other with respect, to reflect context, rebuild modular structures and create welcoming space in which we can test new instruments as well as new ideas and ways of living and organizing. The Synth Library stands thanks to volunteers and donations. Your workshop donations are split between the facilitators of the workshop and the running costs of the library. MEMBERSHIP If you wish to become a member and get access to the instruments and books from the Synth Library collection together with other members three times a week, please register. https://synthlibrary.cz/registrace.php TRIGGER CHANGE We encourage everyone to think about the systems of power and stereotypes not only in the field of music and music technology but in the learning process in general, to be considerate and respectful and join us in creating a welcoming space for everyone. |
